Sustainability at Harvard

I work in a biomimetic nanomaterials lab, focusing on templating self-assembled monolayers and creating nanoparticles with potential implications for increasing hydrogen fuel cell efficiency.

What drew me to the Lab Sustainability Rep Program?

We can all agree that laboratory work and experimentation drive scientific progress and discovery. Yet, the irony is that many lab practices are not particularly environmentally conscious, which seems to be a step back when speaking of scientific advancement. The truly great news is that being green can be easily achieved without any detriment to the course of our research! So why not do something to spread the word and help Harvard's scientists help the environment, as well as discovering those new frontiers of progress?

Can undergrads make a real impact in lab sustainability?

Students are in a very unique position to effect change in the environmental arena. Undergrads, after all, are the future of scientific work–the next Professors and PIs–and if they are made aware of all the things that can be done to make their labs more sustainable, environmental practices can and will become the norm, and not just a one time change.

Fun fact?

I know the entire transcript for the first and third Indiana Jones movies!
