Bay State Bike Week 2010 was a big success in the Longwood Medical Area (LMA).

A 16% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in base buildings since 2006, 10 green teams and a 28% food waste reduction in the dining halls...

The HSPH EcoOpportunity Team and Sebastian's Cafe at HSPH won the "Team Project Award" in the "Waste or Water Reduction" category at the first annual Harvard-wide Green Carpet Awards Ceremony on April 23.

The Campaign

The "Take the Stairs" campaign is an initiative aimed at improving human health (by getting people to take the stairs more often) and reducing our environmental impact (by using the elevator less and thereby using less energy).

Under the leadership of Heather Foley, Staff Assistant, the Center for Health & the Global Environment (CHGE) was the first office to achieve Leaf 4 Green Office Certification at Harvard Medical School.

Harvard University honored and recognized Harvard faculty, students, and staff who have made significant contributions to green house gas reduction and sustainability efforts at Harvard at the first annual Green Carpet Awards on Friday, April 23rd, a day after the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.

Harvard Medical School received an Award of Environmental Excellence from Stericycle® for its use of reusable sharps containers in the HIM & NRB buildings. Since HMS began using the reusable sharps containers in May 2009, 6,774 lbs of plastic have been diverted landfills as a result of this initiative.

The 40th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22 certainly caused reason for media attention with the various Earth Day fairs throughout campus and the inaugural Harvard Green Carpet Awards. Our beloved HBS professors made the news too for their personal perspective on the relationship between business and sustainability.........

On April 23^rd, 2010, Harvard University celebrated the first annual Harvard Green Carpet Awards - an event to acknowledge the individuals and teams across the University who have contributed to reducing our environmental impact.
